The century saw national uprisings in Europe, the American Civil War, wars on the Great Plains and colonial campaigns in Africa and Asia. This quiz takes you through eight of their battles.

How does the industrial age battles quiz work?

How did technology change war in the 19th century?

Rifled muskets and later breech-loaders made frontal attacks far deadlier, railways moved armies faster than ever, and steam-powered armoured warships replaced sail. By 1905, as Tsushima showed, a single naval battle could decide a war.
